A Century of Caring for Our Community 1909 - 2009
Griffin Hospital Centennial
A community writing and oral history project, recording tales of caring and courage experienced at Griffin Hospital. All were invited to write and submit their Griffin tales, and, with the writers' permission, works were posted on our website or in our communications materials. Read some of the tales that have been shared with us.
The oral history component of Griffin Tales, was conducted in partnership with National Public Radio. Its mission is to honor and celebrate one another's lives through listening. Since 2003, almost 30,000 people have shared life stories with family and friends in a StoryBooth, which was on site at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital on May 27 and 28, 2009. Each 40-minute conversation was recorded on a free CD for the participants to share and is preserved at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps is the largest oral history project of its kind, preserving special memories for generations to come.
100th Birthday Party
All Griffin "alumni" were invited back to the place of their birth to celebrate 100 years of caring at this summer celebration held Saturday June 27, 2009 on the Griffin campus. Attendees enjoyed cake, ice-cream, and entertainment. Click here to view photos of the event.
Held on Saturday, October 10 to celebrate cancer survivors and the 1st Anniversary of the Griffin Center for Cancer Care and Hewitt Ambulatory Pavilion.
The Gala of the Century: Griffin Hospital's annual gala ball, was held Saturday October 24 at Southern Connecticut State University. Each year, the event raises funds for the highest priority needs of the hospital. Griffin's gala is considered to be among the premier events of the region, providing great opportunities for networking, client entertainment, and visibility.
Each year Griffin Hospital says "thank you" to its staff, trustees, volunteers and donors with a free holiday concert featuring area choirs, bands, and a cappella groups.
