DERBY, CT (November 21, 2011) - Dan Tuccio, Physician Support Specialist, and Marya Chaisson, MD, co-chair of Griffin Hospital's Patient Centered Care Council, were named recipients of 2011 Spirit of Planetree Awards at the 2011 Planetree Annual Conference held October 30 - November 3, 2011, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tuccio and Chaisson received the "Caregiver Award" and "Physician Champion Award, respectively, recognizing their personal embodiment of Griffin Hospital's patient-centered approach to providing care. The awards were presented by Planetree President Susan B. Frampton in conjunction with the Planetree Annual Conference.
“The Spirit of Planetree Award Ceremony is always a highlight of our Annual Conference,” said Planetree President Susan B. Frampton. “At the heart of the Planetree model are the human interactions between patients and caregivers. With the Spirit of Planetree Awards, we celebrate individuals like Dan Tuccio and Dr. Marya Chaisson who, with their compassion, empathy, and simple human kindness, are improving the patient experience, and that is most definitely worthy of recognition."
In addition to the individual awards, Griffin Hospital was also recognized with “Planetree Designated Patient-Centered Hospital” status for the second time in three years. Griffin Hospital is the only hospital in Connecticut and one of only 16 worldwide to receive the Patient-Centered Hospital Designation since the program began in 2007.
“The Planetree Designation is the only award that recognizes excellence in person-centeredness across the continuum of care,” said Susan Frampton, President of Planetree, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that has been at the forefront of the movement to transform healthcare from the perspective of the patient for more than 30 years. “The designation signals to healthcare consumers that Griffin Hospital is a hospital where providers partner with patients and families, and where patient comfort, dignity, empowerment and well-being are prioritized with providing top-quality clinical care.”
