DERBY, CT (April 19, 2012) - Applications are being accepted for the next Phlebotomy course being offered by the Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers, 300 Seymour Ave. in Derby. Anyone age 18 or older with a High School Diploma or GED may apply for admission. Early registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
The popular 13-week Phlebotomy course begins Tuesday, May 22, with classes held Tuesday through Thursday. Students can choose to attend either day (9:00 a.m. to noon) or evening (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) sessions to accommodate their schedules. Tuition is $1,995 and includes lab coats, books, national certification exam fee, and a 40-hour externship.

The Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers will be offering an evening program for adults over 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED to qualify to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The 16-week course, which begins Monday, March 12, is comprised of 12 weeks of Monday evening classes, held 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the School of Allied Health Careers, followed by a four weeks of clinical experience at an extended care facility on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm.
The course content will include infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communications, body mechanics, moving and positioning residents, personal care skills, nutrition, measuring vital signs, and restorative care.
Once a student successfully completes the course and clinical experience, they will be qualified to take the State exam for certification as a Nursing Assistant...

DERBY, CT: The Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers will offer its second 12-week phlebotomy course beginning Tuesday, February 16, 2010. The course offers both morning and evening schedules to accommodate students' work schedules and other obligations, and is open to anyone age 18 or older with a High School Diploma or GED.
The School's first phlebotomy course, which began in September 2009, was filled to capacity. All 30 students from the first course graduated from their coursework and recently sat for their national certification exam. Students are currently completing their 40-hour externships in several healthcare settings, with the majority expected to find employment upon completing the externships and receiving their certification in phlebotomy.

DERBY, CT (June 19, 2009) - Griffin Hospital is hosting a 100th Birthday Party on Saturday, June 27, from 11 am to 3 pm and the entire community is invited. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour Griffin Hospital's new Clinical Laboratory and the completed Phase I of the Emergency Department. The final phase of this three-year project, which began in 2007 and included the opening of the Hewitt Ambulatory Care Services Pavilion and the Center for Cancer Care last October, will coincide with the centennial celebration at the end of the year.
