DERBY, CT (March 19, 2012) - Griffin Hospital was recently recognized as one of the area’s most dedicated sponsors of the American Red Cross in 2011.

Griffin Hospital achieved Silver Level in the Red Cross’ Life Share Program, a healthcare initiative that aims to increase blood donations at hospital-sponsored blood drives. Last year, blood drives at Griffin Hospital collected 296 units of blood from staff and community donors. Because each pint has the potential to help up to three people, 888 patients may have benefitted from the hospital’s efforts.

“Successful blood drives are a true partnership among the sponsoring organizations, the donors and the Red Cross. Families and communities depend upon the Red Cross in times of need and that is why we sincerely thank Griffin Hospital for its loyal support,” said Paul Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Connecticut Blood Services Region. “We couldn’t continue to help those in need with Griffin Hospital’s dedication.”

Derby, CT - The Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers will offer its third 12-week Phlebotomy Course beginning Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The course offers both morning and evening schedules to accommodate students' work schedules and other obligations, and is open to anyone age 18 or older with a High School Diploma or GED.

Griffin Hospital's School is one of the first hospital-based schools of its kind to be accredited by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education, and plans to continue offering Phlebotomy and other professional educational programs locally to provide training, education, and certification in selected health careers.  Classes are taught by certified instructors in newly renovated classroom space in the Griffin Hospital Medical Building,...

DERBY, CT (June 19, 2009) - Griffin Hospital is hosting a 100th Birthday Party on Saturday, June 27, from 11 am to 3 pm and the entire community is invited. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour Griffin Hospital's new Clinical Laboratory and the completed Phase I of the Emergency Department. The final phase of this three-year project, which began in 2007 and included the opening of the Hewitt Ambulatory Care Services Pavilion and the Center for Cancer Care last October, will coincide with the centennial celebration at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the move into the new Clinical Laboratory was completed this week along with Phase I of the Emergency Department expansion including the new Emergency Department lobby and half of the treatment rooms. When fully completed, the Emergency Department expansion will increase the size...
