DERBY, CT (March 19, 2012) - Griffin Hospital was recently recognized as one of the area’s most dedicated sponsors of the American Red Cross in 2011.
Griffin Hospital achieved Silver Level in the Red Cross’ Life Share Program, a healthcare initiative that aims to increase blood donations at hospital-sponsored blood drives. Last year, blood drives at Griffin Hospital collected 296 units of blood from staff and community donors. Because each pint has the potential to help up to three people, 888 patients may have benefitted from the hospital’s efforts.

The first inductee to be chosen is David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP, the founding director of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center.

DERBY, CT - A resident physician at Griffin Hospital won top honors at a recent oral presentation and poster competition. Dr. Padmini Ranasinghe's poster, "Prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression Six Months after the Tsunami in Sri Lanka," was selected as best research poster at the American College of Physicians Connecticut Chapter Annual Scientific Meeting held on Oct. 28. Dr. Ranasinghe has been selected to present her poster at the national meeting of the American College of Physicians that will be held in April. She was awarded an honorarium toward expenses to attend that meeting.
Dr. Ranasinghe is a fourth year resident in Griffin Hospital's Combined Internal Medicine / Preventive Medicine program and a candidate for the Master of Public Health degree at Yale University. Malasankas is a Multi-skilled Technician in the Emergency Department. DERBY, CT - The 32-member Critical Care staff at Griffin Hospital has been named the 2005 Department of the Year. The award is a highlight of Griffin Hospital's employee recognition program, "I Take It Personally," where departments are nominated by their peers quarterly to compete for the overall award.

DERBY, CT: The Valley Women's Health Initiative will present the 5th Annual "Women Making a Difference in the Valley" tribute luncheon and breast cancer awareness fundraiser on October 6, 2005 from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby.

DERBY, CT: Representatives from The Healthcare Chaplaincy in New York will visit Griffin Hospital tomorrow to join Griffin Hospital staff as they honor retired hospital Chaplain Fredrick Erson, recipient of the 2004 Wholeness of Life Award.

The ratings are the results of a community telephone survey of 360 residents in Valley towns conducted by an independent market research company.
