The Breaking New Ground Campaign was launched in 2006 with a goal of securing $5.5 million in philanthropic support to help fund Griffin’s ambitious campus expansion and renovation plans. With the construction of a three-story, 49,000 square foot Ambulatory Care Building and Community Cancer Center on the hospital’s Derby campus, these plans set the stage for the most substantive changes in patient care services offered by Griffin in a generation.
The Cancer Center will allow patients facing a cancer diagnosis, for the first time ever, to receive a full range of integrated and coordinated services close to home, including radiation therapy, a service that our community has been requesting for years. And by creating the opportunity to relocate growing outpatient departments to the new facility, the project allows for the expansion and improvement of existing services in the main hospital building, including expansion of the Emergency Department, the addition of inpatient beds, expansion of the surgical suite and radiology departments, and relocated of the laboratory.
Chaired by Alan Mathog, the Breaking New Ground Campaign challenges our community to provide philanthropic support at a level unprecedented in this region. To reach our $5.5 million goal, we must rely not only on generous support from our most stalwart friends, but also the investment of new benefactors. Already, commitments received from board members, employees, local companies, foundations, and members of the community total over $2 million.
