Film Library

The Film Library acts as a critical support system to Radiologists, physicians, technologists, referring physicians, and patients who frequent the Radiology Department at Griffin Hospital. The Film Library houses the actual films that are produced in all sections of Radiology. Films are filed, archived, and retrieved on an on-going basis, seven days a week. The Film Library offers a secure and safe location that is HIPAA compliant as well as providing its customers, doctors and patients alike, the services of obtaining films in an expeditious manner.

Whether on the move transporting films or working in the Film Library’s “beehive of activity,” staff members are always conscientious, uphold strict levels of confidentiality, and maintain a state of constant readiness to assist individuals. The Film Library, consistent with the Planetree Model of Care, offers all patients the added advantage of the Express Film Drop-Off Program. Designed with the patients’ needs in mind, this program allows patients to simply drop them off with the valet parking attendant, rather than coming into the hospital to return films. This service is especially convenient for the elderly, those with disabilities, or anyone with special needs; however, this program is offered to all patients who frequent the Radiology Department at Griffin Hospital. This program is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The valet attendant is located in the front of the hospital.

Film Requests

The Film Library standard hours of operation for the general public are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Film pickup requests should be called in, preferably 24 hours in advance, to (203) 732-7264. Patients should indicate their name, date of birth, and the type of films that they are requesting for pick up as well as the pickup date required. For patients who do not call ahead to request a film pickup, there may be a delay in processing your request. Please ask the film library attendant for an in-house beeper so that you do not have to wait in the Radiology Department while your request is being processed.

Film Sign-Out Policy for Patient Pickup

After you have requested a film pick up, simply come to the Film Library in the Radiology Department. If necessary, stop at the Radiology reception desk for instructions leading to the Film Library. Please have a photo I.D. available to present to the film library attendant. You will be asked to sign a release authorization prior to receiving your requested films. The Radiology Department’s film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.

Film Sign-Out Policy for Designee Pickup

Patients who are not able to pick up films in person and choose to send in a designee should be advised that the designee is required to have written authorization by the patient in order to pick up the films. Simply put, patients who are unable to pick up their own films need to state on a piece of paper the name of the designee and that they are authorized to pick up films. The patient should sign this piece of paper and instruct the designee to bring it to the hospital and provide it to the film library attendant. The designee will also be required to show a photo I.D. and sign the release authorization in order to sign out films. The Radiology Department’s film sign-out policy is strictly followed due to designated HIPAA regulations.

Film Return Policy

Please keep in mind that all films that are signed out are originals, and need to be returned by the patient within 30 days of their sign out.

Our Film Library is an example of how Griffin Hospital is changing the face of healthcare.
