Fortune Survey

The selection process for being named by Fortune magazine as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” uses the Great Place to Work® Trust Index©, an employee survey tool that measures level of trust, pride, and camaraderie within the workplace. The Trust Index© consists of 55 statements that cover five dimensions that correspond with the Great Place to Work Model®. The five dimensions are:

  • Credibility – The trustworthiness and competence of management
  • Respect – Recognition of personal and professional worth and contribution
  • Fairness – Equitable sharing of opportunities and rewards
  • Pride – Value attached to one’s job and association with the company
  • Camaraderie – Friendliness and sense of community (or “family”)

"The most important factor in selecting companies for this list is what employees themselves have to say about their workplace," said Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz, of the Great Place to Work Institute, which researches and compiles the list. "Overall today's lesson is that perks are nice, but employees are looking for something more basic. They want to be told the truth, especially if the news is bad. They also want, corny as it sounds, to feel they make a difference and to be given the chance to grow," they said. The results from the survey count for two-thirds of the scoring for the selection as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America”.

Griffin Hospital is the only hospital nationwide to have been named to the "FORTUNE 100 Best Places to Work For" list every year since 1999. In 2006, Griffin ranked 4th, its highest position achieved to date and the highest position held by a hospital. Griffin also ranked 1st on the "Best Small Companies" list. A summary of the Trust Index results for the “100 Best Companies” named to the list annually is provided to each of the companies. Percentages indicate the percent of employees giving positive responses to each question. Respondents were given 5 possible responses ranging from “Almost always untrue” to “Almost always true”. Positive responses indicate the percentage of those who answered the question by marking either “Often true” or “Almost always true”.
