Aquatic Therapy

  

The Aquatic Therapy Program at Griffin hospital is designed for a variety of patients including those with a limited weight bearing status and those who have not responded to or cannot tolerate land-based physical therapy.

Features

  • A SwimEx pool that is capable or providing a current with resistance for more challenging therapy
  • Heated water with temperatures kept at about 94 degrees 
  • A lift for patients with limited mobility who are unable to climb a ladder
  • Private men's and women's locker rooms supplied with towels and robes
  • A personal experience with only one pool patient at a time
  • Offered five days a week, Monday – Friday
  • Initial evaluation on land and treatment sessions in pool

What to Bring to your Appointment

  • A bathing suit
  • Sandals, flip flops, or water shoes

Contraindications to Aquatic Therapy

  • Incontinence
  • Seizure disorder
  • Sensitivity to heat (multiple sclerosis)
  • Open wounds such as non-healing ulcers
  • Extreme fear of water
  • Severe breathing impairments (COPD)
