Griffin Hospital's School of Allied Health Careers' programs are taught by certified instructors in a modern classroom setting. Our program is authorized by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.

Admission Requirements

Students include those seeking second careers, recent high school graduates, and everything in between. The Phlebotomy Course is open to anyone age 18 or older with a High School Diploma or GED. A pre-admission interview and a deposit is required prior to enrollment in the class.

Allied Health Training Programs


Patient Care Technician (PCT) 

  • Spring semester begins May 2014; Winter semester begins in January 2015;School of Allied Health Careers
  • 16-week course (12 weeks of classes, 4 weeks of clinical - 160 hours)
  • Classes are held Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday;
    • morning section (9:00 AM - Noon) or
    • evening section (6:00 PM - 9:00 PM)
  • Hands-on training
  • State-of-the-art simulation equipment
  • Four-week practical rotation at Griffin Hospital (M-F, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
  • Tuition includes books, malpractice insurance, CPR certification, and national certification exam fee
  • Eligible to register for CT CNA exam
  • Spring semester begins May 2014; Winter semester begins January 2015School of Allied Health Careers
  • 13-week course, offered Tuesday - Thursday
  • Day and evening sessions (9 am-12 pm or 6 pm-9 pm)
  • Hands-on training
  • Opportunities for practical experience
  • Tuition includes lab coats, books, malpractice insurance, CPR certification, national certification exam fee, and a 40-hour externship

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Spring semester begins May 2014 (evening course only); Winter semester begins January 2015 (day & evening courses offered)School of Allied Health Careers
  • 13-week course
  • For the Winter 2014 semester, we will offer both day and evening classes. The day course will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am - 1pm, with Clinical Rotations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am - 3:30 pm  for 40 hours. The evening course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 pm - 9pm, with Clinical Rotations from 5 pm - 10 pm for 40 hours. The Spring semester will only be the evening course.
  • Course content includes infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communications, body mechanics, moving and positioning residents, personal care skills, nutrition, measuring vital signs, and restorative care
  • Successful completion of the course and clinical experience qualifies a student to take the State exam for certification as a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut
  • Tuition includes the course book, workbook, Heart Saver class, and malpractice insurance coverage for the clinical rotation
  • Begins October 8, 2014, runs into November
  • 4.5-week course
  • Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm - 9 pm for four-and-a-half weeks, for a total of 30 hours
  • This is a basic course of medical vocabulary. It introduces word construction, pronunciation, prefixes, suffixes and root words. Use of medical dictionary and identification of accepted medical abbreviations will help the individual to navigate the world of medical terms.
  • Using a body systems approach, the student will be able to apply their knowledge to the health care setting.
  • This course would be beneficial to an individual who is going to pursue a career in medical billing and coding, a hospital setting or any health-related profession.
  • Tuition includes the textbook and a non-refundable $25 application fee due at time of submitting an application.
