Griffin Hospital Occupational Medicine & Rehabilitation Services

Because health and safety should never be compromised.

Griffin Hospital shares in the belief that the health and safety of employees in the workplace has become an ever-increasing concern for employers. That's why we established the Griffin Hospital Occupational Medicine Center in an effort to improve the health, well-being, and productivity of our working population. Relating directly to the success of business and industry in our service area, our goal is to partner with employers to protect their most valuable asset: their employees. To accomplish this, we have combined a comprehensive array of services totally dedicated to Occupational Medicine while continuing our efforts to provide truly patient-centered care.

Requiring pre-employment physicals has benefits for both employers and employees. These physicals make it possible to increase productivity by identifying candidates who would not be able to carry out the physical requirements of a particular job. Identifying these candidates also helps employers reduce their workers’ compensation costs.

Our Pre-employment Physicals may include:

  • Pre-placement Screening Services
  • Worksite Walk-Through with our Medical Director
  • Review of job descriptions with emphasis on physical requirements and exposures
  • Post-offer Physical Exams
  • Required Immunizations
  • Audiometry, Pulmonary Function Testing, and EKG
  • Tuberculosis Testing
  • Respirator Clearance Examinations

Back Screens

Back injuries are among the most expensive of musculoskeletal disorders in industrialized nations, and one of the most common work related ailments affecting adults in the United States. Every year, 50% of the working population will experience back pain. Much like pre-employment physicals ensure a physical capacity to work, a back screen checks prospective employees’ capacity for positions that require lifting.

During a back screen the physical therapist will test prospective employees’ capacity for lifting and provide extensive education on proper body mechanics. In addition to identifying employees who are at increased risk for work related injuries, a back screen can assist in preventing future injuries from occurring.

Effective May 21, 2014, all new USDOT medical examinations for interstate truck and bus drivers (both CDL and non-CDL drivers) have to be conducted by a medical examiner who has completed the required training and passed a certification test.

All Physicians and Physician’s Assistants at Griffin Occupational Health & Wellness Center are certified to do these exams. Before scheduling an appointment with your Primary Care Physician, General Practitioner or other Physician for your Medical Card, make sure they are certified to issue one. If not, call Griffin Hospital Occupational Health Center at 203-944-3718.
