Many children in the area will have added safety as they hit the road this summer, thanks to a free car seat giveaway and installation clinic hosted by Safe Kids Greater Naugatuck Valley, Griffin Hospital and The Derby Elks.
More than 38 free car seats were distributed at the event and certified car seat technicians instructed 54 families on proper car seat installation.
The car seats were purchased through a donation by Derby Lodge #571, which supports local community groups with thousands of dollars in donations every year.
“These car seats will help prevent tragedies and we are very thankful to the Derby Elks for working to keep their neighbors safe,” said Cathi Kellett, coordinator, Safe Kids Greater Naugatuck Valley and a member of Griffin’s Valley Parish Nurse program.
Kellet said Safe Kids and Griffin Hospital plans to host another car seat clinic in mid-September to mark National Child Passenger Safety Week.
