Dr. David Katz to be Inducted into MDPA Hall of Fame

By Ken Roberts on 1/12/2012

DERBY, CT (January 12, 2012) - In late December, Marketing Disease Prevention & Awareness (MDPA) began announcing its inductees into the MDPA Hall of Fame Class of 2012. The first inductee to be chosen is David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP, the founding director of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center.

The MDPA Hall of Fame is designed to honor those who have made substantial strides in helping to improve efforts in health through better efforts in marketing, communication, and improving awareness of important health issues. The focus of those inducted this year will be based on their contributions to fighting the epidemic of childhood obesity.

Marketing Disease Prevention & Awareness is an offshoot of the established healthcare marketing conference company, DTC Perspectives Inc. The goal of this venture is to discuss how preventable diseases plaguing the U.S. can be treated and prevented and how to best communicate these options.

In making the announcement of Dr. Katz's Hall of Fame induction, MDPA President Scott Ehrlich noted that “Dr. Katz was nominated by a large and diverse group of people and it is clear his contributions to fighting childhood obesity cannot be overstated. He is an asset to this important fight and it will be an honor to present him with this award at the MDPA Communicating Childhood Obesity Police and Prevention Conference in Silver Spring, MD this March."

Dr. Katz is known internationally for his expertise in nutrition and chronic disease prevention, and is a prominent voice in the media. In 2011, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal, Childhood Obesity. He is a frequent consultant and former on-air contributor to ABC News; a health editor for the Huffington Post; an on-line writer for Prevention Magazine; a health columnist for the New Haven Register; and a frequent source for The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, TIME Magazine, and Newsweek. He has appeared on most major news programs, including ABC World News, The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, 20/20, and 48 Hours. He has also been an on-air contributor to Good Morning America, a health columnist for the New York Times Syndicate, and the nutrition columnist to O, The Oprah Magazine.
