DERBY, CT (August 10, 2005) - Total Benchmark Solution LLC (TBS) is proud to announce that Griffin Hospital is one of recipients of the Total Benchmark Solution Top 100 Quality Award, based upon quality measure data provided by U.S. health care organizations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Griffin Hospital ranked 21st of the 4,203 hospitals reviewed.
TBS loaded data obtained from CMS into its proprietary statistical benchmarking application to provide the rankings of hospitals. TBS determined the Top 100 hospitals by benchmarking and ranking all hospitals nationwide on 15 of the 17 measures related to Heart Attack Care, Heart Failure Care and Pneumonia Care for data provided for the January 2004 to July 2004 timeframe.
"Based upon our analysis of the Quality Measures data, Griffin Hospital has clearly demonstrated its abilities as a top quality performing hospital for Heart Attack Care, Heart Failure Care and Pneumonia Care" stated Bradley Petersen, Chairman and Founder of Total Benchmark Solution, LLC. "We commend Griffin Hospital for its efforts to achieve this ranking, which demonstrates a commitment to quality" added Petersen.
CMS launched the Quality Initiative to collect, measure, and report quality of care data in response to the Bush Administration's and the Department of Health and Human Services' imperative to improve the quality of health care. The ultimate goal is that all private and public purchasers, oversight and accrediting entities, payers and providers of hospital care use the same measures in their public reporting activities.
"Griffin Hospital not only strives to exceed the expectations of those it serves by providing service excellence and an exceptional patient experience, but also superior clinical outcomes and a strong emphasis on patient safety," said Patrick Charmel Griffin Hospital President and CEO. "The recognition by Total Benchmark Solutions validates our efforts and is a tribute to Griffin Hospital's staff and physicians who continuously work to fulfill our commitment", Charmel added.
Griffin Hospital has achieved national recognition for its Planetree, patient-centered approach to care and is touted by a number of national organizations including The Advisory Board as having patient satisfaction ratings that are among the highest in the country. Griffin Hospital is also home to the national headquarters of the Planetree organization, which now has close to 100 hospital affiliate members. Griffin Hospital is the only hospital to be named as one of the FORTUNE Magazine "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" for six consecutive years, this year achieving the ranking of 8th on the list, the highest ever for a hospital.
The CMS's Hospital Compare website allows consumers to research hospital quality information on 15 different measures for three common medical conditions - heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia - with new conditions and measures to be added in the future.
