DERBY, CT (Sept. 25, 2014) – Griffin Hospital will host a free talk on breast reconstruction Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Dining Room, 130 Division St., Derby. In recognition of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day), Plastic Surgeon Mark Melendez, M.D., will host “Breast Reconstruction – Know Your Options,” a free discussion about the different types of breast reconstruction, including perforator flap breast reconstruction in which a patient’s abdominal tissue is used to form a more natural breast. This talk will be especially beneficial to individuals considering or have had a mastectomy.
BRA Day, which is officially Oct. 15 this year, is an international initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access for women who may wish to consider post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. In addition to Dr. Melendez’s talk, the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness will have an informational table about breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction in the hospital on Friday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
“Breast Reconstruction – Know Your Options” is part of Griffin Hospital's Healthy U “Tuesday Talks,” a series of free wellness talks featuring Griffin Hospital medical experts and community partners providing trusted health information and answers to questions on a wide range of topics.
