Dr. Fontes received his medical degrees at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and Harvard University School of Public Health. He completed an internal medicine residency and fellowships in Cardiology and Heart Failure at Boston University School of Medicine.

He recently led the Lenox Hill Hospital Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in New York City as Director of Inpatient Cardiology Services and Director of Innovation and Technology. He also served as staff cardiologist at Montefiore Medical Center and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A prolific researcher, Dr. Fontes has been published in 40 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Fontes serves as Griffin Hospital Chair of Medicine.

He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
