DERBY, CT (June 5, 2008) - Griffin Hospital has received two national awards related to its Planetree patient-centered care model, for providing an exceptional patient experience and for its employee centric culture. The Journal of Sacred Work of the Baptist Healing Trust selected Griffin Hospital as one of America's top ten Healing Hospitals for the second year in a row. Erie Chapman, J.D., President of the Baptist Healing Trust said: "The Healing Hospital designation reflects our belief that Griffin Hospital is making a meaningful effort to advance the work of Radical Loving Care. This work calls each of us to recognize that Love lives at the center of care giving in all fine hospitals and charities."
Griffin Hospital's second award was from Training Magazine which named Griffin Hospital as one of the nation's Top 125 employers for staff training and development. It is Griffin Hospital's second appearance on the list. Griffin Hospital ranked 114th on the 2007 list and 105th on the 2008 list joining such companies as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Verizon Wireless, Aetna and New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Training Magazine noted that registered nurses at Griffin Hospital who become certified in their specialty area receive a $3 an hour ($6,240 annually for a full-time R.N.) certification differential. The additional compensation is provided as an incentive for the nurse to advance in his or her specialty area by obtaining certification, and to raise the quality of the entire nursing staff.
The two awards add to the national recognition Griffin Hospital has recently received including: nine consecutive years on the FORTUNE list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For; being named to the 2008 Community Value Index Five Star hospital list by Cleverly + Associates for operating with a high degree of community value and which are low cost, low charge, and use a strong financial position to reinvest back into the provision of care at the facility; and by the Premier healthcare alliance with the 2007 Premier CareScience Select Practice National Quality Award for superior patient outcomes in both quality and efficiency.
"We appreciate the recognition by these national organizations. They are testament to the collective effort of Griffin Hospital's employees, physicians and volunteers to ensure that those we serve have an exceptional patient experience", said Griffin Hospital Vice President Bill Powanda.
