PET/CT

Griffin Hospital features the latest technological advancement in PET imaging, PET/CT. This advanced modality allows for the physiologic assessment of the human body with an anatomical overlay.
PET/CT Imaging is an extremely sensitive and accurate diagnostic imaging modality that uses radiopharmaceuticals (drugs that include a radioactive component) to evaluate physiologic processes in the human body. PET/CT Imaging is especially useful for oncologic, neurologic, and cardiac evaluations. PET/CT scheduled outpatient examinations are available on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Griffin has state-of-the-art PET equipment that has the capability of performing both PET and CT examinations simultaneously. This newest innovation allows for PET Imaging to more accurately pinpoint abnormalities in the human body, thereby allowing physicians to diagnostically evaluate conditions and diseases as never before.
Griffin Health Diagnostic Imaging offers a breakthrough tool in dementia diagnosis with Vizamyl™
Vizamyl (flutemetamol F18 injection) is an FDA-approved radiopharmaceutical agent used in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans to visualize beta-amyloid neuritic plaques in the brains of adult patients. The presence of these plaques is a critical biomarker in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Vizamyl PET imaging is particularly valuable in cases where the cause of cognitive decline is uncertain, or where a definitive diagnosis would guide clinical decision-making. The scan results can provide additional information to either support or rule out the presence of Alzheimer’s pathology as the cause of the cognitive impairment, contributing to a more informed diagnosis.
Compassionate, Comforting Comprehensive Care
With Vizamyl, Griffin is equipped to assist neurologists, geriatricians, and referring physicians in the complex process of dementia diagnosis and treatment planning. Griffin’s advanced PET capabilities can facilitate the use of Vizamyl imaging, enabling physicians to estimate beta-amyloid neuritic plaque density in the brain to evaluate Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or other causes of cognitive decline.
Griffin Health offers a comprehensive approach to support neurology patients and their families through a range of services, including:
- Affiliated neurologists for consultation and indicated treatments.
- Physical and occupational therapy, including specialized cognitive therapy and neurological rehabilitation programs.
- Primary care through Griffin Faculty Physicians.
- Support groups, such as the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group.
- Community support through its Community Health Resource Center and social services department.
This integrated approach helps referring physicians and specialists manage the complex process of dementia care, from diagnosis to ongoing patient and family support.
