Emotional Well-being
To be truly healthy in body, we need to focus on the connection between mind, body and spirit. This “whole person” wellness helps us overcome obstacles in our personal and professional lives that can prevent us from taking care of ourselves or lead us to unhealthy behaviors. AgeLess provides ways to refresh and recharge at work to strengthen our spirits and internal resources along with counseling and group support services.
Physical Well-being
Reaching good health requires movement. More and more research is showing that prolonged sitting, or inactivity in general, can be devastating to our bodies. Fortunately, it doesn’t take a large amount of time or energy to prevent this health hazard – a few minutes of walking or stretching each day , every few hours, is all you need.
AgeLess will be offering new programs to help you take those first steps to improve your health with classes and fun activities throughout the day that are focused on beginner exercisers, including:
- Demonstrations on how to use the equipment in the Employee Gym
- Circuit training class for beginners
- Ways to increase you stamina and energy
- PUMP classes for beginners
Got a Few Minutes for Fitness? Try out an “Activity Bursts Everywhere!”
The A-B-E for Fitness program offers a free video library of 3 to 8 minute activity bursts that will allow you, your colleagues and your family to move and exercise everywhere, every day!
The exercise videos are organized by the setting (office, home, waiting area, etc), the body region involved, and whether the exercise is performed seated or standing.
Depending on your fitness level, you can start doing one burst per day and then build up gradually.
Financial Well-being
The health of your finances can have a big effect on your overall wellness. Concerns about retirement, college costs for ourselves or our children, and mortgages can cause stress that can lead to unhealthy behaviors. Additionally, planning and paying for healthcare costs are critical for future wellbeing.
AgeLess provides group and one-on-one counseling and support to help make informed insurance and financial decisions about:
- Retirement accounts
- College Savings Plans
- Healthcare and Prescription Plans
- Flexible Spending Accounts for Healthcare
Nutritional Well-being
Like any machine, the human body runs best when it has the right fuel. Healthy eating is a critical part of well-being because what we eat can directly affect our energy, mood and how well our bodies fight disease or develop as we age. AgeLess provides information and incentives to use the hospital’s healthy eating resources, such as the Oh So Good menu options in the Dining Room so that you can take small steps towards getting the most out of your meals and reach healthy eating goals for you and/or your family.
Resources and programs include:
- Incentives and discounts on Dining Room meals and grab-and-go snacks
- Helpful and easy tips or “sound bites” by Griffin Hospital Dietitians on topics like increasing fiber or lowering sodium
- Chef demos for healthy recipes that take 20 minutes or less to make
- The NuVal Food Scoring System
- NutriSavings
