K. Marya Chaisson, MD is one of Connecticut’s leading physicians in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, serving as the Medical Director of Griffin Hospital’s Critical Care Unit and Sleep Wellness Center. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, she has helped shape the delivery of advanced respiratory and intensive care services at Griffin for more than two decades.
A respected physician, educator and mentor, Dr. Chaisson leads the multidisciplinary teams responsible for caring for the hospital’s most critically ill patients. Her expertise spans complex pulmonary disorders, respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, sleep disorders, and the management of life-threatening illnesses requiring intensive care. Under her leadership, Griffin’s Critical Care Unit has become known for clinical excellence, as well as for its nationally recognized patient and family-centered approach to care.
Beyond her clinical leadership, Dr. Chaisson is a highly regarded medical educator who serves as Director of Medical Student Affairs and is deeply involved in physician training and mentoring. She has received numerous honors throughout her career, including Griffin Hospital’s Physician of the Year Award and the nationally recognized Wholeness of Life Award for outstanding caregiving. She also serves as Co-Chair of Griffin Hospital’s Patient-Centered Care Council and was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of Actuated Medical, reflecting the respect she has earned among healthcare leaders and innovators.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Chaisson was among the frontline physicians leading Griffin Hospital’s critical care response. Her work caring for severely ill patients was documented in coverage by The Washington Post, highlighting the extraordinary efforts of healthcare professionals during one of the most challenging periods in modern medicine.
As Chair of Griffin Hospital’s Patient-Centered Care Council since 2008, Dr. Chaisson has played a key leadership role in advancing the hospital’s nationally recognized culture of care, helping to integrate compassion, engagement, and partnership into every aspect of the healthcare experience.
