Low-Dose Radiation Therapy

LDRT uses a precisely targeted, very low dose of radiation to treat areas of inflammation without exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. For decades, LDRT has been used internationally as a non-invasive treatment option for certain painful, inflammatory conditions and may provide an alternative for patients who have not achieved adequate relief with conservative treatments.

Unlike radiation therapy used to treat cancer, LDRT uses substantially lower doses of radiation and is delivered to a small, precisely defined treatment area using CT scan planning. Treatment typically requires only a few short sessions. Because of the low dose and precise targeting, LDRT is generally well tolerated, with typically mild to no side effects.

At Griffin Health, our goal is to provide patients with a safe, convenient, and non-invasive treatment option designed to reduce pain and inflammation and improve quality of life. Griffin’s linear accelerator is used for LDRT with treatment typically consisting of six short sessions. There is the option to repeat if pain recurs.

Effective Relief for Plantar Fasciitis

LDRT can significantly reduce inflammation to help heal plantar fasciitis.

The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissues in feet that runs from the heel to the base of the toes. The fascia is susceptible to distress and injury that can lead to chronic inflammation, resulting in a painful condition called plantar fasciitis. This condition affects a range of people from athletes to those who work on their feet for many hours. Risk factors for this condition include running, obesity, prolonged periods of standing, and poor footwear.

The majority of plantar fasciitis cases are resolved with supportive interventions such as orthotics, foot strengthening exercises, medications and injections. About 30% of cases last for more than three months and can be very difficult to manage.

Resolve Your Osteoarthritis Pain

LDRT can effectively reduce discomfort and improve mobility for individuals diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is the most common kind of arthritis. Also called degenerative joint disease, it can affect any joint in your body and causes the cushion layer between your bones, called the cartilage, to wear away. Osteoarthritis may be hereditary, but the exact cause isn’t known. The condition seems to be related to the wear and tear put on joints over the years in most people. But wear and tear alone don’t cause osteoarthritis.
